Interest growing for simple Legal Access
The need for easy access to information on legal issues has been vindicated by Havilah Legal after recently setting up the Legal Information Desk. They have subsequently made it less intimidating by offering their 20 minutes’ service - free. This now allows companies and individuals to seek advice and make their own decision on whether to embark on what could be a costly, unsure path of legal action.
Principal Bruce Havilah is positive about the move.
“We are getting inquiries from Small Business Owners with difficulties relating to commercial debts and on their choice of business structures like Partnerships and Franchises. Also we are consulted about Employment difficulties. We have some people wanting to know about Family Law issues, which regrettably arise in and because of difficult financial times. The Legal Information desk is a good first step in this process”.
Businesses are very conscious of their legal obligations to operate within the law and are starting to use Havilah Legal to be proactive with the management of their company by seeking advice before jumping in!
Issues that are more prevalent at the moment are the security of their personal and business assets, including protecting their intellectual property and confidential business information from key employees. This is very important in today’s climate with movement of staff and new opportunities for employees which are often tied to benefits an employee can take from their previous job to their new firm or their own business.
We can also advise business owners about rationalising business expenditure by obtaining real value from their service providers (like accountants / lawyers), spending their marketing dollars and getting sensible advice to make strategic decisions for the longevity of their businesses through succession.
Bruce has noted a rise in financial issues for companies.
“The economic crisis means that the time for payment of invoices on commercial terms has pushed out significantly leading to cash flow crises. I’ve noticed an influx of fraud matters around businesses which are now forced to look more carefully at their bottom line”.
They are noticing discrepancies relating to employee fraud - whether criminal or simply the over use of favourite contractors who provide their employee with fringe benefits to encourage the work to flow. As a former Police investigator and having a lawyer with forensic accounting qualifications on the team, Bruce can help!
Havilah Legal is very good at dealing with small business and setting up structures that can solve issues before they become expensive problems.
