Police have wasted no time in applying the new power to seize the vehicles of unlicensed drivers for 28 days having already seized over 200 vehicles. This new law applies to people who have lost their licence for offences such as drink driving, dangerous driving or loss of demerit points, but doesn’t apply to drivers disqualified due to non-payment of fines.

For a second offence, the car can be impounded for three months and for a third offence, a court can confiscate the vehicle regardless of who owns it.
